MS Korea University
BS Korea University
I was born in NamWon, a small town in Korea. After ten years, I moved to JeonJu, where I attended middle and high school. I then moved to Seoul, the capitol of Korea, to begin my undergraduate studies at Korea University. Shortly thereafter, I fulfilled my military service duties in the Korean army before returning to Korea University to obtain both my BS and MS degrees in chemistry. My master’s thesis was based on my work in Dr. Deok-Chan Ha’s group, where I focused on ring expansions of b-lactams into g-lactams. My current work in the Stoddart group is on the synthesis and characterization of rotaxanes to be used in nano-scale device application. I often reflect upon a famous verse from the Buddhist scriptures: “Everything is the same as nothing, and nothing is the same as everything”. I do not yet completely understand the meaning behind this saying, but I do believe that we should live an honest life. Here is another phrase that I would like to share: “Naked came we into the world and naked shall we depart from it. Shrouds have no pockets.”
