More about Mark

I was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas a small city along the coast of the Gulf of Mexico. I received my BSc in chemistry at Texas A&M University C.C. where I worked as an undergraduate researcher for Dr. Eugene and Fereshteh Billiot for two and half years as an N.S.F Louis Stokes A.M.P. and Welch fellow. My undergraduate research focused on the characterization of amino acid based surfactants to be used as pseudo stationary phases for micellar electro kinetic chromatography. During the summer of 2004 I found myself working in the lab of Dr. Jack Beauchamp at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California as a Howard Hughes Institute fellow. Here I briefly worked on the development of fluorescent chemical sensors for the determination of enantiomeric excess in gas phase analytes. I now find myself working among some of the world's best synthetic organic chemists in the labs of Prof J. Fraser Stoddart where I too am enjoying making molecules. In my free time I enjoy the beaches, trance clubs, big name concerts, and the beautiful scenery and lifestyle that is California. What more can I say, as a good Italian friend of mine Massimo once told me when you visit America you must see two places New York, and my new home Los Angeles.
